Welcome to Finland's most popular car exhibition!
Vehoniemi Car Museum nestled in the serene surroundings of Kangasala, Finland (only 15 minutes from Tampere), is not just a haven for automobile aficionados but also a place where the beauty of nature seamlessly blends with the allure of vintage cars. This unique museum offers a captivating experience that combines the allure of classic automobiles with the tranquility of the Finnish landscape. Vehoniemi Car Museum opened its doors to the public in the spring of 1983. The museum was founded by Kangasala residents Lilja (May 20, 1931 - August 11, 2008) and Olavi (May 6, 1932 - August 17, 2014) Sallinen. Their family has been passionate about vintage vehicles since the 1950s. Olavi's first hobby car was an American Rugby Touring from 1924. The family has actively participated in local and national automotive hobby associations and their development. As their collection grew the dream of having their own car museum was born. They found a splendid location for it in Kangasala, right in the midst of the Vehoniemi Ridge Nature Reserve, which has been a renowned automotive tourism destination since the 1920s.
Memorable memories from the history of motor vehicles – Free entrance!
Within the museum itself, you'll find an impressive collection of vintage and classic cars, each meticulously preserved to tell the story of Finland's automotive history. These well preserved automobiles showcase the evolution of design, engineering and innovation in the world of transportation, making it an educational and visually stunning experience for all. The museum's exhibitions are sometimes built around themes, such as in 2019 when the theme was "Japanese Cars and Motorcycles in Finland." On the other hand, the exhibition may consist of different types of vehicles from various eras. The exhibition is constantly changing. During the summer season, individual vehicles are rotated every few weeks. In the motorcycle section, we continue our exhibition collaboration with the Veteran Motorcycle Club. In 2020, the theme is "Early Tracks and Copter Rally."; In addition to the Sallinen family's collection, the car museum also displays vehicles owned by individual enthusiasts from various parts of Finland, as well as vehicles from associations, foreign collections, and other museums. Olavi Sallinen often said, "Cars are made for driving – even museum vehicles". The vehicles displayed in the museum are still in working condition. Nowadays, museum operations are managed by Lilja and Olavi Sallinen's daughter Leila Suutarinen and Leila's daughter Pauliina Suutarinen.
Local delicacies in our popular café
But that's not all – Vehoniemi Car Museum offers more than just a glimpse into the past. After immersing yourself in the world of automobiles, you can relax and unwind at the museum’s own café. All the pastries on display, from pies to cakes, are baked fresh daily. Vehoniemi's most famous and beloved pastries include our own white chocolate cake and the spoon donuts, baked according to Aunt Niininen´s 1920s recipe. Speaking of the white chocolate cake, we promise that it contains all the known calories and even those that are yet to be discovered – We've managed to include them all. Our selection also includes special dietary pastries. During the summer season we offer hamburger meals as well as sausage, chicken and Fish & Chips baskets.

The museum's location, with its proximity to the picturesque lake and the soothing rustle of nearby forest, creates a serene ambiance that enhances the overall visit. On Vehoniemi Ridge stands a 13-meter tall observation tower, built in 1927. The 66 steps to the top are well worth the climb. From the tower, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the picturesque Häme cultural landscape, stretching out to Lake Roine and Lake Längelmävesi.
